Tamim Iqbal
Tamim Iqbal of Bangladesh has been selected as the opening batsman of the Wisden Test XI.
Earlier in the year, he was named one of the four Wisden Cricketers of the Year 2011.
Incidentally, no one from Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and West Indies figure in the Wisden Test cricketers this year. The maximum of five cricketers are from India in the team.
Continuing with good cricket is said to be the reason for selecting Tamim as an opener.
The Bangladeshi opener played seven Tests last year and made a total of 837 runs in 14 innings with an average of 59.78. He also hit three centuries and six half-centuries. He scored the best of his Test career of 151 last year.
With a strike rate of 90.80, Virender Sehwag of India overtook others to grab the top slot among the Wisden Test cricketers, while Tamim got the second place with 80.71.
Tamim is the first Banladeshi cricketer to be selected for the Wisden Test XI.
He has played 19 Tests in his career and made a total of 1,445 runs with an average of 40.13.
